Yazbukey Jewelry Autumn/Winter 2010 by Karen Day

yaz-billy-idol.jpg
yaz-sebastian-tellier.jpg

Stringing plexiglass faces on shoelaces, Ottoman princesses and designers

Yazbukey use lowbrow materials to take on some of pop culture's most

famous silhouettes, forming outrageous statement necklaces and brooches.

Having worked with similarly innovative designers including Martin Margiela,

Christian Lacroix and Jeremy Scott, the absurdist pair call Paris their home base.

Previously choosing iconic figures such as Billy Idol (above left) and

Michael Jackson for their homages, the two sisters continue to express their

musical interest with mysterious French singer and "love guru"

Sébastien Tellier as their muse for the Autumn/Winter 2010 collection (above right)

The upshot is a simple look with complex detailing—a playful collection

that channels a "Crystal Age" feeling. For those in search of a retro-futurist look,

accessories such as a Rosie the Riveter-style turban pinned with a

Star Trek-inspired brooch will do the trick.

Pick up the line created by designers as eminent as the characters

they showcase (maybe not theObama necklace) online from Colette

or at the Order & Progress shop in Melbourne starting at about €50.

Sebastien Tellier Plays Muse to Yazbukey

Yaz and Emel Kurhan are the designers behind jewelry line Yazbukey, and the sisters have done an immaculate job of maintaining the label’s cachet for almost 10 years. The latest collection is up on the Yazbukey site, with an accompanying foreword anointing kindred Parisian nutjob Sebastien Tellier their muse of the season—or, as the sisters tell it, the love guru of their new bejeweled cult. Tellier gets reincarnated in glittering plexiglass for fall 2009, images of which we spotted yesterday on Cool Hunting. The pieces are stunningly accurate in their likeness, but the thought of keeping dear Seb that close to our chests just seems a little much. Far more worship-worthy are these insanely gorgeous rope necklaces—more after the jump.

Yazbukey!

Scritto il 10 luglio 2009 da Cinzia.

Yazbukey!

Jeff Koons, Schiaparelli, Arthur Rackam.

Yazbukey

According to the sibling design duo of Yaz and Emel Kurhan of Yazbukey, “Every girl has a little bit of Marilyn inside her.” The sisters’ conviction that we’re all secret MM fans led to what may be be the funniest accessory of the upcoming season: the Plexiglas Sunburnt Marilyn necklace. “If we’re not amused at the end of it all, then what’s the point?” asks Istanbul-based Emel of the creation. Emel and her older sister, Paris-based Yaz, have been making a splash in Europe for several seasons now. While the Gentlemen Prefer Blondes collection of colorful brooches, bangles, necklaces, headbands, and bags will no doubt turn a few heads, we’re also looking forward to Yazbukey’s soon-to-be launched fine jewelry line, which is inspired by ancient Celtic emblems. “It’s not Van Cleef & Arpels,” says Emel of the sterling silver, gold, and enamel pieces, “but we love jewelry and we just want people to be able to afford what we’re doing.”

Elle Belgique

YAZBUKEY

Enjoy !

Objects of Worship: Obama and Tellier Get Strung Up On Necklaces

obama-tellier-necklace.jpg

We've grown used to the Cult of Obama stateside, but sometimes forget that the politico-idol worship can skip across the pond. Paris-based jewelry line Yazbukey's playful fall '10 collection, "Yazbukey Cult," features pendants and brooches fashioned after objects of adoration—and, in a cheeky interpretation of of worship, includes a grinning, vectored image of our Prez 'Bama. The sisters behind Yazbukey put the Big O in the same pop-idol league as their new muse Sébastien Tellier, giving the sunglassed singer a similar, albeit more monotone, tribute in plexiglass. Colette's carrying the pop objets d'art, but don't pit one icon against the other: The Obama necklace is still available, but the Tellier necklace is sold out. Le sigh.
